"and He rested on the seventh day from all his work which He had made."

God could have completed his work in seconds if He had wanted. This six days was done to show his purpose and progress in creation. God did not rest because He was tired. He rested because his work was complete. He was well pleased. Man saw the first rising of the sun on the Sabbath. The fifth commandment was that man remember the Sabbath. One day out of seven should belong to the Lord. Out of the 168 hours in a week we surely could give him 2 or 3 hours. His resurrection was on the first day of the week. We should practice keeping it a day for worship.

"God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it." Sanctified (set apart) No sin was seen by God or man. The world had not yet been tainted or penalized by sin. Man could talk with God with perfect innocence. God created the earth and caused it to bring forth vegetation. No rain had fallen before man had been created.

"There was not a man to till the soil." God created man to be a worker and was given control over all the earth. All moving creatures feared man. He was to be responsible for taking care of everything.

"The Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Man and female were created in the image of God. Gen. 1:26-28) From dust man came and to dust man shall return. This should remind us that we owe our existence to our Creator. Man is a living soul. Every person has a soul which shall never cease to exist, even though the body returns to earth again. Always remember that our bodies are temples of the holy spirit.
